Deacons

According to the Book of Order (G-6.0400G-6.0407), the office of deacon as set forth in Scripture is one of sympathy, witness, and service after the example of Jesus Christ?.it is the duty of the deacons, first of all, to minister to those who are in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress. They shall assume such other duties as may be delegated to them from time to time by Session.

There are currently 48 deacons, which are divided into five teams. Each deacon is assigned to a team with a leader. There are five tasks that are preformed by each team on a monthly basis. These tasks include taking communion to shut-ins or members in the hospital, delivering flowers to homes or hospital, working at the Food Bank, and helping with the Joy Luncheons.

Responsibilities

On a monthly basis:

  • Attend Deacon meetings when scheduled approximately six times a year.
  • Serve on a commission or committee assigned by moderator.
  • Attend commission meeting and participate in the duties of the commission.
  • Perform team assignment for the month.

On a yearly basis:

  • Attend officer-training meetings.
  • Participate in large church functions such as Rally Day, Easter Breakfast, 2 Blood Drives, and Picnic.

Other:

  • Attend worship service on a regular basis.
  • Serve communion when assigned.
  • Usher with commission members when assigned.
  • Visit members in the hospital when assigned.
  • Greet at Sunday services when assigned.
  • Must be a pledging member.

Elders

According to the Book Of Order (G6.0300-G6.0304), the New Testament Church provided persons with particular gifts to share in governing and ministry. Together with the ministers of the Word and Sacrament, they exercise ordergenericpropeciaonline.com/buy-cheap-propecia.html leadership, government, and discipline. They shall serve faithfully as members of the session. It is the duty of Elders to strengthen and nurture the faith and life of the congregation. Together with the pastor they should encourage the people in the worship and service of God, equip and renew them for the tasks within the church and for their mission in the world, visit and comfort and care for the people, with special attention to the poor, the sick, the lonely, and those who are oppressed.

Responsibilities

On a monthly basis:

  • Moderate a commission or committee.
  • Attend Session meetings.
  • Prepare and submit reports to Session with any action items to be considered.
  • Review and approve any monies spent by commission and keep records of spending by commission members staying within budget.
  • Prepare agenda and make copies for commission meeting.
  • Convene and adjourn commission meeting– opening and closing with prayers.
  • Maintain order to conduct the business of the meetings. Follow Roberts Rules of Order.
  • Compile and maintain commission members information for a directory including addresses and e-mail addresses.
  • Submit information and special events to Spire.
  • Submit and maintain all information sent to Website.
  • Send important meeting information via e-mail to members who missed meetings.
  • Motivate and encourage members of commission.

On a yearly basis:

  • Prepare annual report to congregation.
  • Prepare annual Mission Statement.
  • Submit budget to church treasurer.
  • Attend any special meetings of Session.
  • Attend officer-training meetings.
  • Recruit “members at large” for assigned commission.
  • Create and maintain notebook and contents.

Other:

  • Attend worship service on a regular basis.
  • Serve communion when assigned.
  • Usher with commission members when assigned.
  • Visit members in the hospital when assigned.
  • Greet at Sunday services when assigned.
